Usually I crochet in spirals since what I like to crochet the most are amigurumi. But there are times where I would like to join rounds and those are when I want to incooporate stripes into my amigurumi. The problem is that I never found a way to join rounds that wouldn’t leave a sign so I always avoid it… Until now!
With this amazing technique you’ll be able to join crochet rounds seamlessly, without leaving a trace!
Joining the First Round
- Start the first round by making a magic ring.
- Work 6 single crochets into the magic ring.
- Close the magic ring.
- Take your hook from the loop.
- Insert the hook, from the back to the front, under the top loops of the second single crochet.
- Grab the loop and place it on the hook.
- Pull the loop to the back.
- Take the loop from the hook. Optional: Place a stitch marker on the loop while we prepare the rest of the stitch to avoid it becoming unraveled. We have just created false top loops for the first stitch of the round. This will make sense once we get working on the following rounds.
- Insert your hook under these false top loops and grab the front loop only of the first single crochet of the round.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop.
- Insert your hook into the loop that’s beeing held by the stitch marker and take off the stitch marker.
- Yarn over and pull the yarn through the two loops on the hook completing the first single crochet of the round.
- Continue to single crochet, as ususal, all the way to the end.
The second round is finished. Check below for the video tutorial.
Joining the Second and Following Rounds
- Take your hook from the loop.
- Insert the hook, from the back to the front, under the top loops of the second single crochet.
- Grab the loop and place it on the hook.
- Pull the loop to the back creating the false top loops for the first single crochet.
- Take the loop from the hook. Optional: Place a stitch marker on the loop while we prepare the rest of the stitch to avoid it becoming unraveled.
- Insert your hook under the false top loops.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop.
- Insert your hook into the loop that’s on the stitch marker and take off the stitch marker.
- Yarn over and pull the yarn through the two loops on the hook completing the first single crochet of the round.
- Continue to single crochet, as ususal, all the way to the end.
The result is seamless joined roundes worked with single crochets! Check below for the video tutorial.
Crocheting Stripes
- Take your hook from the loop.
- Insert the hook, from the back to the front, under the top loops of the second single crochet.
- Grab the loop and place it on the hook.
- Pull the loop to the back creating the false top loops for the first single crochet.
- Take the loop from the hook. Optional: Place a stitch marker on the loop while we prepare the rest of the stitch to avoid it becoming unraveled.
- Insert your hook under the false top loops.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop of the second color.
- Insert your hook into the loop that’s on the stitch marker and take off the stitch marker.
- Yarn over and pull the yarn through the two loops on the hook using the second color and completing the first single crochet of the next round.
- Don’t cut the yarn of the previous color and continue to single crochet, as ususal, with the new color. Secure the tail of the new color by working over it or fastening it off on the inside of the amigurumi.
If you want to change colors again grab the first color from inside the amiguurmi and repeat Steps 1 to 10. If you want to continue to work with the same color join like we when we were working with just one color.
When you’re ready to finish off your work cut the yarn you’re working with and needle join to the second stitch of the round. Cut and secure the tail from the other yarn inside the amigurumi.
