One of the things that really bothers me in crochet when working a flat piece with a tall stitch is the gap it is created in the beginning of every row.

Next time you are working a flat piece with a tall stitch remember this:

Next time you are working a flat piece with a tall stitch remember this:
1. Chain 3 (I’m working with double crochet) and turn making sure that the bumps of the chain are facing you.
2. Insert the hook into the second back bump from the hook.
3. Yarn over and pull up a loop.
4. Insert the hook into the second stitch (the chain counts as a stitch).
5. Yarn over and pull up a loop. Treat these 3 loops on the hook as the loops of a double crochet.
6. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
7. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. The linked stitch is done!
8. Continue to work the double crochet across the piece. Work the last stitch on top of the ch3.
As you can see below this technique creates a compact piece without gaps!
1. Piece worked with the linked stitch.
2. Piece worked as usual.
